This past semester the SJSU Society of American Archivists Student Chapter partnered with Phi Alpha Theta, the History Honors Society, to host a panel of current archivists and take a tour of the San Jose Department of Special Collections and Archives. The panel conisisted of Rebecca Kohn, who is an art librarian and the Interim Director of Special Collections at SJSU, Erin Herzog, the California Room archivist/librarian for San Jose Public Library, and Leilani Marshall, a certified archivist and Archivist at the Sourisseau Academy. During the discussion each participant discussed how they ended up working in the archives and what they liked about their positions. Many of the graduate history students don't know about the archival profession which made this a perfect opportunity for outreach and education about our field. Following the panel discussion, the group of 31 students broke up into 3 groups to tour the vaults where archival collections were kept.
